Animal Rescue Officer Rodney Kenny from The London South Inspectorate group is organising a litter picking event along the beaches of the South bank of the river Thames on Wednesday the 12th October between 0900-1400hrs (spring low tide) starting at the Observation Point, Gabriels Wharf at 09:00hrs for a briefing and equipment issue and ending at the Millenium foot bridge near Tate modern.
We’re planning on having about thirty people walking along the beaches in groups of 5 picking up litter to help keep the river environment free from rubbish.
The purpose of the event is to improve the environment for wildlife by removing as much litter as possible and to use traditional/social media to show the dangers posed to wildlife by litter and of course to promote/publicise PLA and our wonderful RSPCA charity.

Background & Purpose
The River Thames is one of the world’s most iconic rivers and home to an abundance of thriving wildlife, including over 100 different species of fish, more than 300,000 over wintering birds and several thousand seals. Regrettably, the last half century has also seen the river become filled with ever increasing quantities of litter. We will work together as one RSPCA team to do something practical and help prevent wildlife being affected by this litter.
